Welcome to Ledger! If you’re new to cryptocurrency or just starting with Ledger hardware wallets, this guide will help you set up your device safely and securely. Ledger is designed to give you full control over your crypto assets while keeping them protected from online threats.

Step 1: Unbox and Inspect Your Ledger Device

When your Ledger device arrives, carefully unbox it and make sure all components are included: the hardware wallet itself, a USB cable, recovery sheets, and any accessories depending on your model. Always check that the package is sealed and has not been tampered with — security starts before you even plug in your device.

Step 2: Connect Your Device and Install Ledger Live

Connect your Ledger device to your computer using the provided USB cable. Next, download Ledger Live, the official app for managing your crypto assets, from Ledger.com/start. Ledger Live lets you install apps for different cryptocurrencies, check balances, send and receive assets, and perform firmware updates.

Step 3: Initialize Your Ledger Wallet

When prompted, choose “Set up as new device” if this is your first time using Ledger. You’ll be asked to create a PIN code — pick one that’s unique and memorable. This PIN protects your device from unauthorized access.

Next, write down your 24-word recovery phrase on the provided recovery sheet. This phrase is the only way to recover your funds if your device is lost, stolen, or damaged. Never store it digitally or share it with anyone. Ledger will never ask for your recovery phrase.

Step 4: Install Cryptocurrency Apps

Once your device is initialized, open Ledger Live and navigate to the Manager tab. Here, you can install apps for the cryptocurrencies you want to manage. Each app corresponds to a specific blockchain, so you can securely store and manage multiple assets on a single device.

Step 5: Receive and Manage Crypto

After installing the apps, you’re ready to receive your first cryptocurrency. In Ledger Live, select Receive, choose the crypto, and follow the on-screen instructions. Always double-check addresses before sending funds to ensure your assets go exactly where you intend.
